National Police, at a voting point on October 1. Riot police from the National Police, at a voting point on October 1. The National Police has recently been singled out again for matters originating in Catalonia. A judge in Barcelona has prosecuted 45 agents due to indications that their actions to prevent the voting of the illegal referendum on October 1, 2017 could constitute crimes of torture, against moral integrity or injuries. Added to this is that in recent days the website La Directa.cat has published images and details about a national Phone Number List information police officer who, according to these reports, would have been infiltrated in circles of the pro-independence extreme left in Catalonia. Several women activists from organizations of this movement have filed complaints against this police officer for having maintained romantic and sexual relationships with them to obtain information.
Ciutadans deputies in the Parliament of Catalonia, as well as with Inés Arrimadas, to try to gather support for the agents. “Politicians have shown their unconditional support for the inexplicably indicted police officers and for the measures that the SUP has been demanding for years for the police officers who provide their service in Catalonia,” this union emphasizes. Among other “urgent and necessary” measures, they propose the declaration of ZES (Zone of Special Singularity) for Catalonia, and economic measures to alleviate the uprooting and hardship of displaced agents, with an abandonment rate of more than 40% each year, improving the salary of police officers. They also ask for social measures similar to those existing in other communities, such as discounts on school cafeterias and sports facilities, and labor measures, such as increasing the scale of police officers posted in Catalonia. “Without permanence, it is more complicated to provide quality service to citizens; staff that suffer this turnover lose experience and knowledge of the territory,” warns the union, which considers it “unforgivable” that no action is taken to stop this flight of security agents.

Catalonia, “an autonomous community that leads arrests against jihadist terrorism, which is a border with Europe, an area especially sensitive to trafficking in people, capital and ultimately a strategic point for security.” From Ciutadans, Carlos Carrizosa has expressed his group's support for the work of the General Information Commission, work that, he points out, is surely also carried out by the Mossos d'Esquadra. This party denounces that "the National Police is mistreated in Catalonia", does not receive support from the Government and also suffers harassment of accusations in the courts from organizations, it points out, "funded with public money" from the Generalitat and the Barcelona City Council. That is why they are going to launch several initiatives both in the Parliament of Catalonia and in the Congress of Deputies, which will propose job improvements for national police officers.
