• Soft bounce and hard bounce: What is it?

Implementing a successful email campaign doesn’t stop at sending relevant emails. There are many related elements that will impact campaign performance.

First, it is necessary that the emails sent are well received by the recipients. Unfortunately, it happens that this is not the case. Some emails do not reach the inboxes.

When this happens, the emails will "bounce" and return to the sender as error messages. The error message, or notification, tells the sender that their email was not sent to the recipient.

The bounce, also called return or rebound in marketing jargon, therefore refers to an error message received following the sending of emails. This message is used to notify that one or more emails have not been delivered to their recipients.

Soft bounces
A soft bounce occurs when an email cannot be delivered to a recipient for temporary reasons. More specifically, a soft bounce occurs when the recipient's server temporarily blocks the receipt of an email.

In this case, the recipient's email does indeed exist. This also means that the message has reached the recipient's server even if it has not been delivered.
